Edgar Mendez founded EGM&Co. in 2008. Prior to founding EGM, he spent three years with The
Mercanti Group. While at Mercanti, he served as an execution and structuring officer for selected
merger and acquisition engagements. His negotiation and process efforts consistently resulted in
achieving maximum value for sell-side clients. He led the firm's efforts in the Juvenile Products
category. He also provided advisory services on raising capital and strategic alternatives and
authored various research reports on the consumer products industry.
Prior to Mercanti, he spent more than six years working with Gateway, Inc. While at Gateway, he
served as the divisional CFO for Gateway’s Consumer and Small Business Sales division (a $400
million revenue division), Gateway’s Assistant Treasurer, Director of Corporate Financial Planning,
divisional CFO for the Mobile Products division and a key member in both the Strategic
Outsourcing operations and Corporate Development areas. While in Corporate Development,
Edgar was responsible for assisting in the management, valuation and due diligence activity for
Gateway’s $300 million strategic investment portfolio which consisted of a dozen private and public
companies, including AOL, Rentway, ProAct Technologies, Transmeta, eSoft and OfficeMax.
Prior to Gateway, Edgar spent more than three years as an investment banker with Merrill Lynch
in Los Angeles working on both mergers and acquisitions and capital markets activities for
Fortune 100 companies. His primary areas of industry focus included aerospace and defense,
healthcare, retail apparel, business services and specialty manufacturing. Advisory engagements
clients included Litton Industries, MedPartners, Brylane, Mossimo, Oakley, Allied Waste Industries,
Tenet Healthcare and Safeskin Corporation. Edgar graduated from the University of California,
Los Angeles with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Economics.
Mr. Mendez serves on the Board of Directors for the Los Angeles Chapter of the Association for
Corporate Growth, the premier global association for more than 12,000 professionals involved in
corporate growth, corporate development and mergers and acquisitions. Also in this capacity, he
serves as Vice President for the chapter's Private Equity committee, which includes more than 100
local and national private equity chapter members.
Mr. Mendez also serves as Co-Chair of the Membership committee for the Latino Business Chamber
of Greater Los Angeles. The Latino Business Chamber serves Latino business owners in the
southern California area by providing access to technical assistance, educational seminars,
procurement opportunities and networking programs.
Mr. Mendez currently lives in Palos Verdes, California with his wife of ten years (Rosie) and three
children (Ashley, Jessica and Ryan). He coaches youth soccer and participates in the YMCA
Princess program.
